An opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant, to provide support to older people at a residential and nursing home in York. The home provides a welcoming and relaxing environment, with a large, bright conservatory and is part of a highly reputable organisation within the Health and Social Care sector. It provides specialist care for older people including a specialist unit for dementia care and mental health issues. As a Health Care Assistant, this home can offer permanent days, nights or a mixture of both if preferred.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring individual, with some experience as a Care Assistant, or who has experience of caring for older people with mental health needs / dementia, to join this professional organisation and contribute to the provision of an excellent standard of care.

This home provides quality care, stimulating activities and regular outings. It also holds regular coffee mornings and events to which the local community are always welcomed.

This organisation can offer on going progression and training and the role is extremely interesting and rewarding due to the focus upon developing relationships, and motivating residents to access lots of different social activities.


To provide care as a Health Care Assistant for the service users under the guidance and supervision of the Home Manager, trained nursing staff and senior care assistants; and to undertake other activities to assist in the running of the Home as required.

To act as a Care Assistant key worker for a number of service users. Ensuring that you greet any service users, for whom you are a key worker, on admission to the home and assist them to settle in.

making beds
talking to residents and making them comfortable
encouraging, supporting, motivating service users to partake in a variety of activities
To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
To report to the Nurse in Charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors

Skills & Attributes  

Ideally have NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate with residents, team members and other professionals such as nurses and doctors.

Ability to listen and motivate individuals to partake in hobbies, learning development and social events to help them lead fulfilling and independent lives.

Understanding of mental health needs
Basic understanding of Infection Control
Passion to provide excellent standard of care and enjoy providing opportunities to enable residents to lead more interesting and rewarding lives
Awareness of health and safety and safeguarding
